Day 1: Why Success?
- Take time to write down your definition of success. Be specific. Do not use phrases such as, "lots of money"... instead say "annual income of X and total net worth of Y". You must be able to know for certain when you reach your definition of success, at least your definition at the start of this program. Write this down and save it somewhere where you can access it 365 days from now.
Day 2: Remembering and Using People's Names
- Go through a magazine and learn the names of all the people for which there are photos and names. It is best to use a magazine that does not have many movie stars or famous people whose names you already know. Or if you prefer go through your friend's/spouse's high school yearbook and do the same. Remember the names (first name only is fine) of at least 50 people.
- Commit yourself to remembering the names of all the characters introduced in movies you watch.
- Make your best effort to remember the name of every new person you meet, simply because it makes the other person feel special and important.
Day 3: Inspiration from Henry Ford
- What do you admire most about Henry Ford and why?
Day 4: General Life Purpose
- Decide what people or groups of people you want to spend your life (or at least this part of your life) benefiting. Be honest with yourself. Write down in a paragraph who will benefit from your life purpose.
- Now write down the reasons why you are focusing where you are on the scale. For example, if you are 16 years old and your current life purpose is to have fun and do all you can while you are young, then add that as a reason. If you are just starting a family and your focus is on your family, you might put down that your family needs you most at this time in your life. Or if you have been there, done that, and feel it is time to give back to the world, list that as a reason. The goal is to remove any guilt you might otherwise feel by not focusing on your own needs, your family's, or those less fortunate.
- If you have a significant other in your life, be sure to discuss this with them. A relationship is a partnership and both parties must be in agreement on expectations. After your discussion, alter your purpose if necessary and/or your relationship.
Day 5: Positive Mental Attitude
- Write down all the negative events surrounding your life right now, one negative event at the top of each page. Then do your best to fill the page with positives that come from the negative.
- Commit to making an effort not to give in to the negativity of others. Do not feed their negativity with negativity of your own. When you are around a negative person, use your PMA and watch hope and inspiration begin to show on that person. If you find they are in too deep and you cannot help them, excuse yourself and walk away.
Day 8: Using Humor Effectively
- Do one of the following in front of an audience in the next 24 hours (audience can be business associates, a group of friends, or just your spouse). a) Tell a joke. If you do not know one, use the Internet to find one, b) tell someone a funny story, c) do your best impersonation, or d) pretend you hit your head on the door when you open it, using your hand to make the bang sound, then hold your head and do your best groaning.
- Write down three not-so-devastating “unfortunate events” that happened to you in the past – the more recent the better. What was humorous, ironic, or just plain funny about those events?
Day 9: Perseverance, Persistence and Determination
- Take time to think about your own life and where you are today. Write down some of your past goals and dreams that you have either given up on, or “put on the back burner”. Now think about any obstacles that may have gotten in the way. Was your decision based on reason and a legitimate change of goals or did you use those obstacles as excuses not to persist? This exercise will give you a good idea of your current level of persistence.
Day 10: Inspiration from Benjamin Franklin
- What do you admire most about Benjamin Franklin and why?
Day 11: Specific Purpose
- Write down your specific purpose with as much detail as possible. Use a whole page if you can. Be sure to write as if you have already achieved your special purpose; "I am...", "I have...", etc.
Day 12: The Power of Choice
- Commit to avoiding the words "I have to" from now on. Instead, substitute the words with something such as, "I want to" or "I prefer to". If you catch yourself saying, "I have to", think about what you REALLY meant to say and do your best to say what you really mean the next time.
- Write down five things you previously thought you “had to” do. Then rewrite the statements in the more successful way. For example, “I have to go food shopping today” can be rewritten as “I am going food shopping today so our family can have a delicious dinner tonight.”
Day 15: Excuses
- Write down the top ten reasons why you feel you are not at your optimum level of success today. Do this now before reading action step #2.
- Look at your list of ten reasons. How many of those are really poor excuses? Are you putting blame on someone else or circumstances? Do your best to rewrite each reason following the principles outlined in this article.
- Commit to doing your best to avoid having to make excuses. If excuses are necessary, do not blame others or external events.
Day 16: Enthusiasm!
- Practice calling on your enthusiasm. Visualize a time when you were enthusiastic about something. Think about what you were feeling, what you were seeing, and what you were hearing. Replay the "scene" in your head until you begin to start feeling the enthusiasm once more. Write this scene down in some detail and refer to it when needed.
Day 17: Inspiration from Bill Gates
- What do you admire most about Bill Gates and why?
Day 18: Avoid Exaggeration
- Commit to actively listening for exaggeration when others speak. In your mind, rephrase their statement to a more honest and accurate one that does not use exaggeration.
- Commit to avoiding exaggeration. When you do catch yourself, immediately correct yourself by rephrasing your statement.
- Write down the top 5 exaggerations you find yourself using most. For example, you may often say, “We’re never going to get there!” when you are running late. Now, rewrite these statements in a more truthful and positive way, such as, “I think were not going to make it on time.”
Day 19: Remembering Numbers
- Commit this number to memory by using the technique in this article: 1549572664
- Set on your calendar to recall this number one week from now.
- Choose a word to associate with each number from 0-9. You can use the suggested word or create your own. For example, we already suggested the word “tie” for the number one, because the word “tie” has the hard “t” sound with no other non-vowel sounds.0 = ass (as in donkey)
Day 22: The Words You Use Make All the Difference
- Everyone has his or her own limiting phrases that he or she uses on a regular basis. Take some time to write down yours. Then, write down possible alternatives for each one that make a positive statement.
Day 23: You ARE a Salesperson
- Write down how your life would benefit if you were a "master salesperson". Think about as many situations as you can in your past where you were selling something to someone, whether it be a product, service, or idea.
- Promise yourself to show more respect to salespeople, even if they happen to annoy or interrupt you. Remember that they are people just like you, with feelings and emotions, who are just doing their job.
Day 24: Inspiration from Donald Trump
- What do you admire most about Donald Trump and why?
Day 25: Time Mastery: Part 1
- Starting on your next "average" day, keep a written log of how your time is spent. For example it may look something like this:
6:05 - 6:15: got up, used bathroom, did a few stretches
6:15 - 6:45: read the morning paper
6:45 - 8:00: watched TV
... If your days vary greatly, you many want to do this for a few days to get a true sense of how you spend your time.
- Make a "to do" list of everything you need to do. These lists are liberating. Once you put down on paper the things racing through your mind, you can focus on more positive and productive things such as your life purpose and goals. Try this for one week. If you see the benefit, continue to maintain your “to do” list.
Day 26: Time Mastery: Part 2
- Read over the six techniques and principles in this article and write down if and how you can make use of them.
Day 29: Separating Performance from Performer
- Make a promise to yourself to never again engage in name calling. When criticizing, always be conscious of the need to criticize a person's actions, not the person.
- Make a list of your usual criticisms that you now know you should not use. Make a promise to yourself never to use these again.
Day 30: The Subconscious Mind
- Choose one of your bad habits (come on... we all have at least one). How did this become a habit? Think back to why you started doing this. Was it something you saw someone do, like a friend or parent? What was your reason for starting this? Was it a good reason or do you think it could be a negative program in your subconscious mind? (sorry... not at the point in the course where we are correcting bad habits yet!)
Day 31: Inspiration from Oprah Winfrey
- What do you admire most about Oprah Winfrey and why?
Day 32: Self-Esteem
- Write down where you see yourself on the self-esteem scale. On the left side of the page write "low self-esteem" and on the right side write "high self-esteem". Put a big "x" where you feel you are on this scale.
- Follow the steps for building self-esteem in the article above. Commit to doing this on a regular basis until you have the high self-esteem that you deserve to have.
Day 33: What Do You Want?
- Begin the exercise in this article. It may take you several days to complete it.
Day 36: Think HUGE
- Make a conscious effort to think without limits. Only the average person limits their thinking, the successful person does not.
- Write down how much money you would ideally like to make per year, then double it.
Day 37: Responding vs. Reacting
- From this point on, stop yourself from reacting to situations the moment you realize it. This does not mean keeping your hand on a hot stove until you can think about the best thing to do. This means not yelling "*$&@!#!!" in front of your children after you pull your hand off. Use the "get composure" technique if needed and take a deep breath, then respond.
- Think about the last time you reacted to a situation that caused you to say or do something you later regretted. Write this down, then write down how you ideally should have responded.
Day 38: Inspiration from George Burns
- What do you admire most about George Burns and why?
Day 39: Fear of Success
- Write down all the reasons why you think success would be a bad thing. Then, next to each reason, put on your success cap and write down why that really is not a good reason. If you cannot seem to do that, post your reason on the yeartosuccess.com discussion board and let other members help you!
Day 40: Fitness Basics
- If you are not currently 100% committed to a fitness program, write down all the reasons why you are not. Then carefully think about each answer and use your creative mind to counter each objection to your commitment. If you cannot think of a convincing counter, post your reason(s) for not committing on the yeartosuccess.com discussion board for feedback and ideas.
Day 43: Livin' the High Life
- Spend a few minutes thinking about your use of artificial stimulants and depressants. Are you substituting those highs for natural highs?
- If you use drugs, smoke, or even drink alcohol, think about and write down the circumstances in which you first tried these substances. What was your motivation? Do these reasons still make sense now? Is continuing the use of these drugs in line with your definition of success?
Day 44: Failure is the Seed to Success
- Never again say "I failed" or "I am a failure". Replace those self-destructive statements with something such as, "this attempt failed" or "this plan failed".
- Write down all your recent and/or "large" failures. Next to each, write down all you have learned from the failure. Also write down all the positives that came as a result of the failure. When you are done, look over your list of "failures" again... is it really that bad?
Day 45: Inspiration from J.K. Rowling
- Take a few minutes to read A&E's biography of J.K. Rowling.
Day 46: Write it Down!
- Get yourself either a small notebook and pen or recorder to have near you at all times—or at the very least just by your bed, since this is where the majority of "record-worthy" ideas and answers may come to you.
- Chances are, your mind is full of thoughts right now not pertaining to this article. Are there things that you need to do? Things that are bothering you? Ideas that came to you recently that are hard for you to let go? Write them down now. See how writing them down will allow you to better focus on other things.
Day 47: Analogies, Similes, and Anecdotes
- Think about how you can use analogies, similes, and anecdotes in your daily life.
- Commit to listening for analogies, similes, and anecdotes. Once you recognize their use, you will be more consciously aware of them, thus not automatically accepting them as truth.
- Write down at three analogies, similes and anecdotes that you have heard before that you do not agree with, or that make no sense to you.
Day 50: Customer Service
- Write down who your customers in life are. For example, if you are a teacher you may write down “students and parents”. Now think about this… If your “customers in life” were paying customers with a choice to go elsewhere, would they?
Day 51: Gratitude and Appreciation
- Follow the gratitude building steps in the article above. Commit to doing this when you find yourself in an unappreciative state of mind.
- Pick up a small object nearby. Take a few minutes to study it, feel it, taste it, and smell it. Think about all of the work that went into creating the object. Learn to appreciate that object.
- Start showing at least twice as much appreciation for others and others' actions as you have been showing. "Double the dosage".
- Write down five people you appreciate and the reasons why you appreciate them.
Day 52: Inspiration from Jack La Lanne
- What do you admire most about Jack La Lanne and why?
Day 53: Trying New Things
- Think about the last few things you have tried for the first time recently. In retrospect, were these good choices?
- Commit to trying new things only if they fit in with your life's goals. Do not risk a destructive addiction, habit, or activity that will take you further from your goals and thus further from success.
Day 54: The Pain and Pleasure Principle
- Put this principle to use right away! Which of your behaviors do you want to change? Start small to see the power of this principle then move on to bigger things. Follow the steps above for accomplishing this.
- Use this principle and the steps above to convince yourself without question, that you MUST be successful. Associate pain with not being successful and extreme pleasure with being successful.
Day 57: Create a Win-Win Situation
- Keep this very important key negotiating principle in mind from now on and commit to using it in your next negotiation, personal or business.
- Use this technique to negotiate something today. Better credit card interest rate, better phone rate, agreements with vendors, mortgage rate – anything. First prepare for the negotiation by writing down what the other party has to gain by agreeing to your terms.
Day 58: Project a Positive Personality
- Become aware of the kind of personality you are projecting in your personal and business relationships. Commit to projecting a more positive image in your relationships and witness for yourself the change in the other person's personality.
Day 59: Inspiration from Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Take a few minutes to read the A&E's biography of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

- Commit to completing this course! There is nothing better than a daily dosage of educational, inspirational, motivational, and positive-ational ;) material to drive you closer to achieving your meaning of success.

- Go through your needs. Are they being met? Where on the hierarchy are you being "held up"? What can you do about it?
Day 64: Building Another's Esteem
- Take some time to think about the relationships you have in your life. Are you an esteem builder or destroyer? If the latter, use one or more of the esteem building steps to make amends.

Day 66: Inspiration from Helen Keller
- Take a few minutes to read the A&E biography of Helen Keller.
Day 67: Create a Stressless Lifestyle
- Identify and write down each of the "stress factors" in your life. Consider each stress factor a problem that needs resolution. Realize that it is your reaction to these problems that is causing stress and once you have a plan for resolving the problem or managing it, there is no need to be stressed over it.
Day 68: Your Dream Collage
- Start your collage today with at least one image. If you have no magazines around, search the Internet. Just start with one image that really inspires you to reach your goals.
Day 71: Today is a New Day
- Why are you not exactly where you want to be today? Does it have anything to do with events in your past? Are you using your past as an excuse for not being exactly where you want to be? Think about this.
- Do you know another person who seems to have "given up" in life because of a past failure? If so, share this article with him or her and offer your encouragement. Change someone's life today.
Day 72: Baby Steps
- Try this baby step approach with one of your goals or current problems. Break it down into as many smaller steps as it takes for the goal or problem until you believe you can achieve or solve it.
Day 73: Inspiration from Thomas Edison
- Take a few moments to read A&E's biography of Thomas A. Edison.
Day 74: Luck

Day 75: Why Aren't You Rich?
- Just do the exercise in the article.
Day 78: Going the Extra Mile
- Go the extra mile or offer to go the extra mile for someone else right now (or very soon). Experience how good it makes you feel knowing that you have helped another without expecting anything in return.
Day 79: Thank God It's Any Day
- Do you often make disempowering statements such as, "Thank God it's Friday"? If you do say this, it is telling others how you feel about your work and it is also telling your subconscious how you feel about work, even if you really enjoy your work. Think about replacing your disempowering, common, small talk one-liners with more empowering ones that will motivate others and help them to think more positively.
Day 80: Inspiration from Abraham Lincoln
- Take a few moments to read A&E's biography of Abraham Lincoln.
Day 81: The Law of Diminishing Returns

Day 82: Getting Better Every Day
- List at least 10 specific ways in which you can make small, daily positive changes in your life. Example, "replace my morning coffee with fresh juice".

Day 94: Inspiration from Eleanor Roosevelt
- Take a few moments to read A&E's biography of Eleanor Roosevelt.
Day 95: Advertising, Marketing, and Sales
- Commit to consciously questioning ads you come across. Learn to spot the advertiser's attempt to condition your brain to respond positively to their product. If you drink beer will you automatically find yourself surrounded by beautiful people? If you smoke Virginia Slims will you become a successful, independent businesswoman?
Day 96: Is It Right To Make So Much Money?
- Are you still being held back from financial success by guilt? If so, write down your beliefs that are holding you back. Do your best to refute these beliefs. If you can't, dog ear the page in your success journal and revisit this exercise when the answer comes to you.
Day 99: The Power of Belief
- Do what it takes to convince yourself, without doubt, that you can succeed.
Day 100: The Money Machine

Day 101: Inspiration from John F. Kennedy
- Take a few minutes to read A&E's biography of John F. Kennedy.

Day 103: Everyone has 24 Hours in a Day
- Replace "I don't have time for..." with something such as, "At this time, I prefer to spend my time..." The latter is a more honest statement that others will appreciate hearing.
Day 106: The "Good Ol' Days"
- Think about the time in your life you refer to as the "good ol' days". Were they really that good or are you just remembering the good and blocking the bad? Would you really go back to that time if you could and lose all of your wisdom you have gained from that point?
Day 107: Financial Freedom
- Calculate an approximate dollar figure it would take for you to live a life of financial freedom. How much would you need initially to purchase the things you want and how much would you need on a monthly basis to maintain the things you have, and continue to live your ideal lifestyle?

Day 108: Inspiration from Albert Einstein
- Take a few minutes to read A&E's biography of Albert Einstein.
Day 109: Business Systems

Day 113: Having It All

Day 122: Inspiration from Jerry Seinfeld
- Take a few minutes to read A&Es biography of Jerry Seinfeld.
Day 123: Get a Job?

Day 124: Learning to Fish
- How can you help others help themselves? (hint: refer others to this course!) What else can you do to help others help themselves?
- Where in your life have you, or do you currently, accept temporary assistance? How can you replace that with instruction so that you are no longer dependent on the assistance?
Day 127: Dependability
- Rate yourself on a dependability scale from 1-10 (10 being the most dependable). How often do you do what you say you are going to do? How often do you do it when you say you are going to have it done by?

Day 138: Welcome Frustration
- Make a list of all the things that you are currently frustrated with right now in your life. Look at each item on the list and think about what you can do to turn the frustration into opportunity. If you cannot think of anything right away, remember that your subconscious mind will work on the solution for you.
Day 141: Express Sincere Interest in Others
- Start putting this principle to work right now. Start expressing interest in others almost to the point where they say, "What are you writing, a book?" Try this with complete strangers as well and see first hand how your interest in them brightens up their day.
Day 142: Always Look for Opportunity
- Spend one full day consciously looking for opportunity. Go about your average day, but always be thinking about possible opportunities in everything you do. This will take conscious effort at first, but with a little practice, it will become habit.

- Make a healthy choice today. Choose grilled chicken or fish over a hamburger or steak. Have a glass of fresh juice instead of a cup of coffee. Snack on fruit or veggies instead of candy and pastries. A healthy lifestyle begins with small and frequent healthy choices.
- Make an appointment for a checkup. If your last visit to the doctor took place sometime last century, it is time to make another appointment.
Day 148: Let it Go
- Make amends. Are there any relationships right now in your life that can use fixing? Are you still living with guilt for something you did to someone years ago? It is never too late to do the right thing. Make amends and start living with a clean slate today.

This exercise will give you a better sense on how often you should follow your intuition.
Day 155: How To Lose a JOB in 10 Days
